REDISCOVER YOUR CONFIDENCE: Fighting mild cases of Acne Keloidalis Nuche (AKN)
Acne Keloidalis nuche (AKN) is a disorder involving chronic inflammation of the hair follicles on your neck and back of your scalp. It causes red patches on your skin, which can develop into papules, plaques, pustules, infections, scarring and hair loss. This disorder is most prevalent among black males often beginning between 14 and 25 years of age where the reported prevalence in African Americans range from 0.5% to 13.6%.
What causes acne keloidalis nuchae?
Scientists aren’t sure what causes AKN, but some believe it might be due to:
Skin injury from irritation (like a helmet or tight collar)or certain hair-cutting methods, like very close shaves.
Immune reactions in the cells of hair follicles. Extra androgen hormones or sensitivity to androgen.
How does acne keloidalis nuchae start?
The condition usually begins with red, itchy bumps (papules) or patches of skin. The papules tend to get infected because of scratching, leading to pustules (pockets of pus, almost like pimples).
What are the later symptoms of acne keloidalis nuchae?
Over time, AKN progresses to inflamed, thickened and scarred areas of skin (fibrosis, hypertrophic scares and keloids). Episodes of inflammation can range from mild to severe.
Symptoms may include:
- Crusty feeling on your skin.
- Itchiness.
- Pain.
- Plaques (scaly patches).
- Thickening and scarring of your skin and hair follicles.
- Tufts of hair loss.
How do you get rid of acne keloidalis nuchae?
There isn’t a cure for the condition, so treatment usually involves medications to ease symptoms, such as:
Topical or oral antibiotics to treat or prevent bacterial infection.
Retinoids (which come from vitamin A) to improve symptoms.
Steroids (in creams, pills or injections) to help calm inflammation.
skin grafting. This involves cutting away damaged portions of skin and replacing them with healthy patches of skin from somewhere else on your body.
laser hair removal and radiotherapy (only for cases that are resistant to all other treatments).

MY STORY
Anthony Stewart is the owner of Christopher Myron Collection. His story begins in 2017. He started to notice that he was getting bumps on the back of his neck with pustules. His mother would say "boy you better stop eating all the junk food, that's why you getting those bumps":) Well, black people traditionally have oily skin and eating the "wrong" foods, as are constently told, would result in bumps on our face. So so because the condition would come and go or at least he thought it would, this belief went on until 2019 when he decided to go to a dermatologist. Anthony was advised that he had contracted Acne Keloidalis and of course with that diagnosis, came the standard "treatment" options. He was prescribed doxycycline monohydrate, clobetasol, clindamycin and he even had two steroid injections. None of the treatments had any lasting effect on his condition.
Anthony then sought out another dermatologistin 2021 and again was prescribed the same standard "treatment" options. Only this time he was advised that a skin graft might be in order. He was not about to go through that. Enter 2021. He started to experiment with different combinations of solutions suggested by a friend whom he met who was from The Dominican Republic. After a few trial runs with different ideas, he found a natural compositon that not only reduced the bumps, dried the pustules to the point that it was barely noticeable with staying power. The incredible thing was, it was a natural solution.
No more prescriptions or steroid injections, no more pills, no more steroid creams. Anthony’s confidence and self-esteem returned. It wasn't until a year later did he think to himself, "if this works for me, it has to work for someone else." Dermatologist approved, SIR and SIR II was born out of his desure to help other men with the same affliction.
